ok i’ve been thinking and i just can’t imagine the dursley’s convincing an entire neighbourhood(and teachers iirc?) that an angelic little round-faced child was the root of all evil, and so came the headcanon that harry always had a sharpness to him, that made the stories sound more plausible. when lily and james’ old friends saw him the first time they all noticed the resemblance, but lily’s eyes had never seen that much and james, though mischievous, wasn’t prepared to do absolutely anything to survive. this was the boy dumbledore saw a savior in, who wasn’t pampered no matter what fucking snape imagined. and this child would become the man who defeated the dark lord, who despite his own hardships was ready to die to save others.
